Oil paint is a type of slow-drying paint that consists of
particles of pigment suspended in a drying oil, commonly linseed oil. One of
the most popular artists who used this type of painting is Vincent Willem van
Gogh (March 1853 – 29 July 1890) was a Dutch post-Impressionist painter whose
work, notable for its rough beauty, emotional honesty and bold color, had a
far-reaching influence on 20th-century art. Due to his mental illness he stayed
in a hospital, during his stay, the clinic and its garden became the main
subjects of his paintings. He was allowed short supervised walks, which led to
paintings of cypresses and olive trees.
